Message from our Executive Director

I grew up in a Hispanic household where family always came first. Love was shown through work, sacrifice, and making sure everyone was taken care of, even if it meant we had to go without sometimes.
My family lived in a space many people understand. We didn’t qualify for support because we were considered “too stable,” but we were also not comfortable enough to stop worrying. My parents worked very hard to give us a better life, and I am grateful for all they did. We have grown and come a long way, and I am proud of that.
But I do wish they didn’t have to work so much. I wish we had more time together. Time that was peaceful and unhurried. Time where we could simply be a family without stress always present in the background.
There are so many families in our community who carry that same experience. Families who work long hours, care deeply, do everything they possibly can, and still feel like support is out of reach or only available during hours that do not fit real life. That is why After Hours Community Project was created.
We want families to have support at the times they are actually able to reach it. We show up in the evenings, after work, after school, after the rest of life has settled, because that is when help is often needed most.
Our goal is simple: to make sure families do not feel alone while they are working through life. We are here to walk with you, support you, and remind you that needing help does not mean you are failing. It means you are human.
You deserve dignity.
You deserve understanding.
You deserve community.
And we are here for you.
Especially when the day has been long and you simply need someone to say, “We’ve got you. Let’s do this together.”
With community always,
Rafael Díaz-Martinez
